POP is a full service photo business specializing in professional on-location studio photography of artwork, art collections, and antiques trade stock.
My name is Tipton Gentry, and as founder of POP, I have over 25 years of photography experience ranging from traditional film and darkroom work to digital capture and editing, including 15 years of commercial work and experience with Adobe Photoshop.
I have worked on location with area artists, collectors, and antiques dealers as a sideline since my arrival in Asheville in 2001. In that time I have seen the increasing need for an onsite photography service, especially in the large community of our hardworking local artists, so I decided to do something about it.
At POP the mission is simple: to keep the working artists where they need to be—in the studio creating art.
In bringing the photography setup to the artist, the need to pack and transport fragile work is eliminated, thereby reducing productivity downtime, while also making it easier to photograph outsized and installation pieces. I understand that art is a livelihood, not a hobby, and my goal is to help artists build their portfolios, and therefore their standing in the art world at large, by documenting the work before it is sold.
